Will Smith’s slap at Chris Rock at the Oscars has sparked outrage, criticism, and even appreciation from some of the world’s most famous people.
After Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, comparing her to the film character GI Jane, he got into an argument with her.
As a consequence of her fight with alopecia (an autoimmune disorder that causes hair loss), Pinkett Smith has decided to get her head shaved.
It wasn’t until the next year’s Oscars when Smith, who ended up winning the best actor award for his portrayal as the tennis star’s father in King Richard, returned to his chair, bellowing at Rock, “Take my wife’s name out of your F****** mouth”.
After a brief pause to gather his thoughts, Rock resumed introducing the candidates for the best documentary picture, saying “Wow, Will Smith just knocked the s*** outta me.”
Will Smith’s Apology and Justification
As per reports in the United States, Rock has decided not to seek charges. Combs subsequently informed the New York Post that the feud was settled, adding, “That’s finished. It’s over.” “I can verify that,” I respond.
Although Smith expressed his regrets to the Academy and his “fellow candidates,” he did not mention Rock by name during his celebration statement. To put it another way, he compared himself to the role he played in the movie.
In a statement, Smith stated, “Richard Williams was a tireless advocate for his family.” God’s call on my life at this point in my life is so overwhelming that I am unable to keep up with it all.
He went on to say that “art imitates life.”. “I looked like a crazy parent, exactly as they claimed. In the end, love will drive you to the brink of madness.”
There has been no public statement from any performer since the controversy first surfaced.
Response from Celebs
The Smiths’ son Jaden Smith responded to the controversy by tweeting, “that’s how we do,” after the uproar.
In an interview with the LA Times, comedian Tiffany Haddish said, “I believe Chris was nasty.”
According to the reporter’s tweet, she remarked, “As a woman who had a husband, I wish my husband would have stood up for me the way [Will] stood up for [Jada].” Every woman wants it, doesn’t she?” That wounded her. He also took care of his wife. In other words, “And that’s what a guy should do.”
Filmmaker Rob Reiner tweeted that “Will Smith owes Chris Rock a major apology” for the assault.
For what he did, there is no justification.” “He’s fortunate Chris isn’t bringing assault charges,” he wrote. His justifications were “bulls***” tonight, in my opinion.”
A similar sentiment was expressed by the actress Sophia Bush, who said that “violence isn’t acceptable.” In the end, “assault is not a solution.”
“Punching down at someone’s auto-immune condition is unacceptable,” she continued. It’s cruel to do so on purpose. “It’s time for a break.”
