- Many fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will openly admit that Thor: The Dark World is their least favourite movie of the Infinity Saga.
- The pressure of these extra shots doesn’t seem as pressing now that the picture isn’t due out until July 8th.
- Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, who was last seen being given the title of ruler of the Asgardians by Thor, will return in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Filming some additional scenes
Thor: Love and Thunder ended filming in June, and Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi celebrated by sharing a bunch of images. With the fourth film in Thor’s solo roster of Marvel adventures having had its release date pushed back a few months, it appears that the cast is back in the studio filming some additional scenes, which have hinted to a flashback to the events of Thor: The Dark World. New set photos have revealed Hemsworth as Thor and Natalie Portman as Jane sporting wigs and outfits that appear to be similar to those seen in deleted scenes from the second Thor film, implying that one of the MCU’s least popular films will be brought back into action (Lund, 2021).
Thor: Love and Thunder was set to hit theatres on May 6, 2022, but, like most of the planned Marvel films on the Disney slate, it was postponed to allow filming on the several interconnected films to be completed without being hurried in post-production. The pressure of these extra shots doesn’t seem as pressing now that the picture isn’t due out until July 8th, but for fans, it merely means a longer wait to see if these new sequences will help explain Jane’s absence from Thor: Ragnarok more than what has been seen so far.
Least favourite movie of the Infinity Saga
Many fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will openly admit that Thor: The Dark World is their least favourite movie of the Infinity Saga, but the events of Avengers: Endgame turned the film into one of the franchise’s more important films, prompting many fans to revisit the film with a little more forgiveness. Returning to the film in order to fill in the gaps in Jane’s story could give the franchise’s black sheep a second look (Lund, 2021).
Expectations from the God of Thunder
While Thor and Jane broke up after Thor: The Dark World, the fresh session apparently saw the two squabbling in the recorded sequences and capturing the break-up that was only briefly stated on screen previously. We’ll have to wait and see if any of this has any bearing on Thor: Love and Thunder’s primary storey, which is still mostly a mystery, although there have been a few hints about what we may expect from the God of Thunder’s next adventure.
Director Taika Waititi has already stated that he wants to maintain the vibe of Thor: Ragnarok in his sequel, which will see Jane Foster transform into The Mighty Thor and team up with Chris Hemsworth as the hero against Christian Bale’s wicked Gorr the God Butcher. Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, who was last seen being given the title of ruler of the Asgardians by Thor, will return in Thor: Love and Thunder, as will Guardians of the Galaxy regulars Peter “Star Lord” Quill, Manta, Drax, and Nebula, though what role they will play in the proceedings is one of the many unknowns at this time (Lund, 2021).
